Mildred Douberly Brown
August 24, 1918 - November 21, 2017
Mildred Douberly Brown, 99, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Spanish Oaks Retreat. Born in Savannah and a member of Ardsley Park Baptist Church, “Millie”, as all knew her, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A homemaker in the truest and most traditional sense of the word; she lived for her family. She made all who knew her feel a part of that family. She loved to garden and work in her flowers. Her skills in the kitchen were unsurpassed. In all things, especially her children, she loved to see them grow and flourish. This love extended beyond her immediate family to those she adopted through love, especially Pat Hiers who devotedly cared for “Aunt Millie” and Etta Miller and their brother Lucky. Those who knew her will cherish their memories of Mama, Nana and Aunt Millie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry E. Douberly and Ola Smith Douberly; husband, Henry J. Brown Sr.; children, Theodore V. Brown, Harry J. Brown Jr. and daughter-in-law, Donna Brown.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Spanish Oaks Retreat and Hospice for the care they gave in her final years.
Surviving are her son, Rev. Daniel A. Brown of N. Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Henry J. Brown III (Cheryl), Carolyn L. Brown-Hiers (Lucky), Virginia Ann Kirby, Christopher S. Brown (Melinda); four great grandchildren, Robert Brown, Stephen Brown, Lindsay Gregson, Tyler Gregson, Danielle Kirby, Jesse Kirby; two great great grandchildren, Bella Kirby and Kohner Phonasa and daughter-in-law, Davine Eldridge.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Robert Brown, Christopher S. Brown, Glenn Smith and Lucky Hiers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerald Douberly and Richard Douberly.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Ardsley Park Baptist Church, 3202 Bull St., Savannah, GA 31405 or to the Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity, 160 Merovan Dr., N. Augusta, GA 29860.
I would like to send my condolences to Mildred's family. I'm sure she was a wonderful person. May God provide you with the strength needed to cope during this difficult time. My condolences are with the Brown family. Surely Mrs. Brown was a loving person who cared for her family dearly. I’m sure that your fond memories of her will bring you comfort during this difficult time. I hope that you also find comfort by relying on God as you await the fulfillment of his promise to be reunited with your loved one again (Psalms 118:14, Acts 24:15). I’ll keep you all in my prayers.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your loved one. My heart goes out to your family. I know that no amount of words can take away the grief and sorrow your family is going through at this most difficult time. Having lost loved ones in death myself, I've found God's Word to be a real comfort for me. Right now it seems as though the pain will never go away, leaning on Almighty God will bring us comfort. He promises to be "near to those that are broken at heart and those who are crushed in spirit he saves." (Psalm 34:18) My prayers are with you and your family that you continue to stay close to God in prayer. Never give up hope in the promise that God's dear Son, Jesus, made that "all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out." (John 5:28, 29)
